About Me
After more than two decades in IT, I’ve learned that the best way to grow is to share what you know (and what you don’t). This blog is my place to do exactly that — to capture what I’m working on, reflect on lessons learned, and mix in a bit of personal chaos along the way.
Current Role
By day my role is as Field CTO for Hybrid Data Centers, focused on helping organizations modernize their IT environments, simplifying operations, and securely embracing hybrid cloud strategies. My work covers everything from virtualization and disaster recovery to automation, networking, and platform design — and I love turning complex problems into practical, real-world solutions.
This blog is where I share some of the things I’m working on, learning about, or exploring with customers and partners. Whether it’s a new architecture pattern, lessons from the field, or a fresh take on hybrid infrastructure, my goal is to keep things real and relevant for people navigating similar paths.
Life Outside the Data Center
When I’m not architecting hybrid cloud solutions or knee-deep in infrastructure planning, life revolves around my wife and our three dogs.
We split our time between our home in South Carolina and a near-off-grid getaway in West Virginia, where we’re in the process of restoring my wife's family farmhouse. It’s a peaceful retreat that mixes old-school projects and no cell phone service, but fiber internet to make sure I can get Git commits and Nutanix LCM updates pushed out!
Our garage is a hybrid of gym and lab — barbells, rucksacks, kettlebells, and a rack of servers all coexisting in controlled chaos. We work out together in the driveway (followed by mimosas), and I occassionally coach a few Crossfit classes every now and then, and still maintain my Crossfit Level 2 status. My wife usually leads the charge with a new challenge, and the dogs are always nearby — observing, judging, occasionally interrupting.
This balance between technical problem-solving and the simplicity of lifting heavy things outside keeps me grounded and energized.
Career Journey
I’ve been officially in the IT industry since 1997/98, though my first-grade homework already had “computers” listed as the dream job. My career kicked off running scripts in TOAD against Oracle databases, then moved into EMR systems and Citrix environments at a large hospital in Virginia. After that, I spent time at General Electric, where I deepened my skills and love for all things virtualization, Unix, and Oracle environments.
Eventually, I landed at eGroup, where I’ve now been for 12 years. It’s been an incredible journey, and today I serve as Field CTO — helping customers across industries design and execute smart, scalable, and secure infrastructure strategies.
Areas of Focus
I’m passionate about simplifying and modernizing IT architectures for customers using platforms like Nutanix, Cohesity, Rubrik, Pure Storage, and many others. I believe in making IT approachable, resilient, and easy to operate without sacrificing performance or security.
One of the most rewarding parts of my work is supporting the public safety sector. I work closely with first responder agencies across the country, from police and fire departments, 911 centers and emergency dispatch, helping them implement infrastructure solutions that are simple, resilient, and ready for anything. It’s work that matters, and I’m honored to play a small role in supporting those who serve.
